Founded in 1969, V & M FLORESTAL’s main activity is the planting of eucalyptus forests from which to produce charcoal – one of the key inputs to V & M do BRASIL (former-Mannesmann S.A.) operations, used to feed its Blast Furnaces in the steel tube making process. V & M FLORESTAL is one of the Brazilian pioneers in eucalyptus forest planting and management. It is also one of the most technologically-developed companies in its line of activity, relying on its own Center for Support to Forestry Research and Development – CAPEF, located in the municipality of Paraopeba – MG. The aim of this Research Center is to develop new technologies to enable continuous improvement in planted forest yield and in wood carbonization processes, thus entailing the economical, environmental and social sustainability of its forestry undertaking.
The administrative headquarters of V & M FLORESTAL is located in Curvelo, Minas Gerais, and its plantation areas are distributed about the state’s North and Northwest regions, having as local urban references the municipalities of Curvelo, João Pinheiro and Montes Claros.
The Enterprise has approximately 232,000 acres of properties distributed in 22 farms in 22 municipalities of Minas Gerais. Around 101,500 acres are planted forests of eucalyptus, to ensure the provision of environmentally friendly fuel. Meanwhile, the total area of preservation is about 80 acres.

Forestry Management
The production system of V & M FLORESTAL comprises the following processes: preparation of seedlings, planting, forest maintenance, harvest, wood carbonization and charcoal transport. All operational activities are carried out using the company’s own technology, developed in partnership with Brazilian and international universities and research centers.
